Alberto Balsam Blends - New

My hair kit contains the new shampoo, conditioner and detangler by Alberto Balsam Blends. And I've received them all free from Alberto Balsam.

I made sure to use the items at least 3 times before writing this review.
The kit is for coloured hair called Colour Bright and it has a lovely scent of Camellia and orange.

The shampoo.
The consistency of the shampoo is smooth, creamy and rich. When I first used it I started off with a little dab on my hair and it was more than enough! My hair length is just under my shoulders.

The conditioner.
I then rinsed my hair off the shampoo and applied the new Alberto Balsam Colour Bright conditioner. This was my favourite item out of the three I've received. It is really creamy and made my hair feels so silky, soft and shiny. The scent is gorgeous: so refreshing! It left my hair smelling divine.

The detangler.
I finished off my hair treatment with the new Alberto Balsam Colour Bright detangler. I sprayed on my towel dried hair and brush it. Again the fragrance is gorgeous. It has a blend of Jerico Rose extract and orange scent. The detangler needs to be shaken well before using to blend well the two phases. It can be used on wet or dry hair. I've used it every morning to refresh my hair.
It doesn't need to be rinsed off. The detangler has a UV filter.

My last thoughts.
All three products are Parabens free and the bottles they come in, are fully recyclable and they are made of 25% recycled plastic.
My hair colour looks brighter and refreshed. My husband and my friends have noticed the difference and commented it on my new brighter colour! Great products. Would recommend.

My score.
5/5

John Masters Organics Citrus and Neroli Detangler

Thanks to Birchbox.co.uk I was able to sample this detangler and here is my review.

I have used it twice already since receiving it one week ago.
As I opened the small 30ml sample bottle I could smell "heaven"!
I wanted to try it straight away. So I did!

My hair is coloured and highlighted! It is dry and needs lots of TLC often.
It isn't very easy to comb because it is dry and the chemical treatments do not make things easy.

So I proceeded to wash my hair with my usual shampoo for highlighted hair. Rinsed it as you do and then applied John Masters Organics Citrus and Neroli Detangler!
Using just a small amount I was able to cover the length of my hair (half way my back) and then I brushed it with a shower comb. (Shower comb has wide teeth so it works like a detangle brush)

The smell relaxed me and make me want to close my eyes and dream of being in a far away island...it felt like being in a spa. Divine.

The texture is smooth, soft and creamy.

After leaving the product on for 2 minutes, I then rinsed my hair.
Brushed it again with a detangler brush and left it to dry naturally.

I cannot tell you how soft, smooth and luscious my hair felt afterwards.
It smelt divine too!

My hair retained the same softness and smell for days!

Last thought.

The 30ml bottle has done what it was meant to do: make me want to buy more, and more and more.
I would definitely buy a full bottle and I have already suggested it to all my friends and family. Big thumbs up from me!

My score.

5/5 well done John Masters!

Breville Halo Plus Health Fryer VDF105

Big, bright and green!

I have had this health fryer for about 3 months now and I have cooked with it a variety of meals including: freshly cut chips, frozen chips, sweet potatoes, lamb shanks, fish, fish finger, jacket potatoes, nachos...

The Breville Halo Plus Health Fryer, is a significant chunk of kitchen gadgetry and, for some, it may be a bit too big, bright and showy!

It takes up a fair space on a kitchen worktop and you will also need a clearance of about 20 inches (or 51 centimetres) between your worktop and any wall cupboards, to allow the lid to open fully, otherwise you will have to pull it forward, clear of any wall cupboards and may end up with it overhanging the worktop edge.

It is also worth noting that the lid has to be opened to add the ingredients and therefore you would need space above. You cannot put it underneath a cupboard as you will not be able to open the lid to add the ingredients.

Operation is, however, fairly simple, although it took me a minute or two to master the means of operating the tilt lock. Setting the timing and turning the machine on is very straightforward. Two buttons: combined cooking (halo+fryer) or just halogen. And then two other buttons to decide the time you want the ingredients to cook for (add more minutes or decrease minutes). Press Start and you are good to go.

So, how does it cope with cooking food? The quality of fresh chips was reasonable, but the timing may need adjustment to suit personal preferences. It coped very well with frozen chips, as it did with roast lamb shanks. The fresh, roast potatoes were excellent.
I have cooked sweet potatoes in it and my family really enjoyed them a lot!

You should note that the only timings given for this machine are for fairly large portions, so, if you are cooking for only one or two you may have to adjust the timings. You also need to keep a close eye on progress as food can very quickly become overcooked. So don't leave the kitchen for half-an-hour and expect to come back to perfectly cooked food - it could be underdone, perfect, or charcoal.

Efficiency.

I cannot find out its energy efficiency rating, but it operates at 1.3kw, and will cost about 18p per hour to use (depending on your exact tariff).

This compares with the approximate hourly costs for the following electrical appliances:

Electric grill - 48p
Electric oven - 30p
Cooker ring - 28p
Microwave - 10p
Slow cooker - 2.5p

The actual costs will of course vary between different makes and power ratings.

In general, it compares favourably with grills, ovens and rings, but is not as efficient as microwaves or slow cookers. At the same time, however, it is a little more versatile than the latter two.

I also looked at cooking times and found little variation between using an oven and using the Breville fryer, which makes the Breville, in general, cheaper to use (per item). However, if you wish to cook a meal of, let us say, pie and chips (both from frozen), the total time taken by the Breville fryer will be 50 to 60 minutes, as both have to be cooked separately (and whichever is cooked first will have to be kept warm). Alternatively, using a conventional oven to cook both at the same time will take only 30 to 35 minutes (allowing 5 minutes for the oven to heat up), cancelling out any saving that the Breville may give on lower power usage.

So, while the Breville can be economic to use when cooking single items, it is likely to be the case that your cooker oven is likely to be more efficient if cooking two or more items at the same time.

Price.

I bought mine from very.co.uk at sale price of £99 RRP £150. It is expensive for what you get and it is equivalent to about 400 hours of oven time. It clearly falls into the category of a luxury and not an essential

Last thought.

I enjoy cooking with it; it's quick, clean , efficient, different yes but your kitchen will not smell anymore of frying and lastly but not least it is healthy!

My score.

4/5

The only reason why it does not get my full mark it is because of the colour (white and green) which does not really match with my kitchen design.

Laura Mercier Face Polish

The following review is about Laura Mercier’s Face Polish, which I recently discovered, thanks to Birchbox and I really liked!

Where To Buy:

Laura Mercier’s Face Polish can be bought at the Laura Mercier counter in a shopping centre, Sephora or Nordstrom,  or simply online. I got mine from Birchbox as a sample to try but you can buy a full size too from the same place online.

Cost:

For the full size, 100g (3.4 oz) you are looking at around £22 to £26.

My Take on Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish:

Exfoliation is very important to a lot of women, including myself. There is really no substitute for it. Removing the dead skin cells gives the face an instant brightness that no cream can achieve. For people with dry skin, it is even more important so that the makeup doesn’t stick to any dry patches. I've tried lots of different face polishes, gommages and scrubs for my face. Nothing like this one! The difference in the texture of my skin from one use is so drastic. It also smells  incredible and does not irritate my skin. The micro-beads are of perfect size and roughness to clean my face without hurting it.

Also, the emollient that holds the beads is so smooth! It literally transforms your skin to baby soft!

Things I Love about Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish:

  • Amazing, unique product.
  • Perfect sized beads for exfoliation.
  • A little goes a very long way.
  • It leaves the face squeaky clean and fresh within a minute.
  • It smells super awesome.
  • It is gentle enough to be used everyday!
  • It does not irritate my sensitive-acne prone skin.
  • Great price to quality ratio, so I don’t feel like I’m being ripped off

Things I am Not So Much in Love with about Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish:

  • Nothing! :)

Last thought:

This is the best exfoliator that I have ever used!! It's gentle enough that I can use it everyday and it leaves my face glowing and soft.

My score:
